We are adopting new ways of working and embracing innovation to deliver on our gritty projects and our promise "Easy Journeys". We deliver upon this purpose through our values - bigger and bolder together, we connect, safe with us and we care...full stop

We're one big whānau who go big to deliver great experiences and outcomes for the People of Tamaki. We are working with the tertiary institutes and providers across NZ to offer a brand new offering in the Internship space with a four week Virtual Engineering Internship.

AT offers opportunity beyond what you might know or expect:

  • Infrastructure projects on a scale like nowhere else in NZ, such as rebuilding the sea wall along Quay street, so it is here for future generations.
  • Creation of new cycleways and walking paths to increase safety, connect ways to travel and provide more choice for our communities.
  • Sustainability programmes not only for AT but in how we build new infrastructure projects.
  • Creation of new digital apps for journey planning and visibility of number of travellers on buses.
  • Safety programmes and support for schools and walking school buses.

And much more!

  • You will have the opportunity to work with incredible mentors and learn from specialists in the Industry.

Pros and cons of working at Auckland Transport

Pros

  • The culture - it's so welcoming and allowed me as a graduate to feel equipped and supported into my role and as my first job in the real world.

  • Flexible working, culture and diversity, high value on wellbeing and the large scope of work you can get involved in.

  • My department has an amazing culture. It is really supportive and everyone genuinely wants others to do well so they are quick to offer assistance when needed

Cons

    • Sometimes the line between who does what and what project belongs to who is blurred, so some people don't take responsibility, which then gets confusing and annoying.

    • Processes can take a little while and there is more red tape around certain activities/tasks/projects than other organisations perhaps. It's a shame that the perception of AT from the outside is not reflective of the culture inside.

    • Sometimes the work can become repetitive
