Culture at Fonterra

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 37 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Pretty good, a strong amount of cooperation is needed and most people are willing to help, a large hierarchy, but for the most part everyone is approachable and the levels don't impede too much, outside of office hours there are social events and colleague typically get along and have friends outside of work from the company

I haven't worked there for long but hierarchy doesn't seem to be an issue in my experience and departments. People with higher roles are interested in your work and engaged.

The structure and hierarchy within Fonterra is well laid out. However, people don't fall into the typical hierarchal problems and are really open to communicate and cooperate with everyone across the business. This has made an entry level role such as graduate really fun and often rewarding being able to talk and work with higher ups while accessing their knowledge and expertise. This has made the workplace collaborative with a positive social culture.

Social life with other grads has been a highlight of the programme. From my perspective, most other teams appear to have a good culture too. Unfortunately, particularly within manufacturing, the culture is a much more mixed bag, with some locations having awful culture. Organisational burnout is a big problem for manufacturing and my graduate programme.

People in the offices are friendly, open and willing to help. There is good cooperation and teamwork and socialising.

it is good. Not having an area to leave your own stuff int he main offices, instead being expected to take everything home each day is rough tough in my opinion.

Office culture is very positive. Very easy to get along with colleagues and work in teams.

The people are great and I feel like the structure is good. The teamwork seems to be good depending on the team and the region.

Company culture is great, everyone is super friendly and always willing to help. Plenty of social interaction within and outside of working hours, Some hierarchy, but that is a given when dealing with managers/higher ups

Culture fosters open communication and accessibility across the hierarchy. We regally meet with L3 and L2 leadership, and it's clear that if your eager to learn, you can reach out to anyone. it's been engaging and enjoyable experience with plenty of opportunity to grown.

Varies by team/division as it is such a large company

The Grad Program is great, the cohort are given a lot of opportunities to build networks. In my experience, people have a lot of time for grads and always willing to share their experiences and give advice.

The culture within the graduate community is strong inside and outside of office hours - high levels of teamwork and lots of socializing. This starts to fall apart on manufacturing sites but is very site specific.

Farm source culture amazing both in the office and outside - very welcoming and keen to get me engaged in multiple roles/visits as well as in social events

It is big so there is plenty of social opportunities at work. Outside of work it up to you as there is social events but you do not have to take part. Very focused culture and is not very hierarchical

Company Culture seems to vary widely between teams and its dependent on the team but my current teams culture is very flexible and manageable in office and after hours with very little requirement to work after hours. The only BAU that might have that is on Monday, but manager has been pushing me to not work beyond 5pm to ensure a good work-life balance which is nice. Cooperation wise, its a much smaller team structure in Oceania than in big Fonterra, so its far easier to socialize and work with people across a wide range of business units. Socialising amongst colleagues is easier than larger Fonterra-however it does become difficult to socialise with a very broad range of ages and people who may not have something you can leverage to have conversations about.

Amongst graduates it is great. We see each other outside of work from time to time. We have a social club in which we have events every few weeks if not every week. Team-to-team culture varies. Definitely some male-dominated areas in the supply chain, male management can underestimate my abilities at times. Opportunities for cooperation are obvious but sometimes are not modelled by leaders and managers

Everyone's really friendly and open to a chat, the social club that is run in Auckland is great as well and offers various events etc.

Lots of social things to get involved in at work - wish there was more sport involvement and that everyone in the office knew each other. There are a lot of people that work here! Why don't people say hello to me in the elevator?

Such a large company that you more than often walk past people you have and never will interact with but the smaller groups of people you meet are great. Haven't met someone I disliked nor would interact with outside the office. Seems to be a clear scope of where we are trying to move the company.
