What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
Very happy at this stage in my career as a grad just out of uni
Graduate, Palmerston North - 29 Aug 2024
Sits around the middle of many grad programs. Its enough to get by with but Auckland is expensive to live in!
Graduate, Auckland - 26 Aug 2024
Salary is decent for a graduate. As a part of the programme, Fonterra pays for a master's degree and some of our travel, including a week-long conference in Auckland.
Graduate, Palmerston North - 23 Aug 2024
I get paid $65,000 /year as an graduate engineer, which I believe is on par with the industry average for mechanical/mechatronics engineers. The bonus structure is convoluted but I could receive between 0% and 10% of my salary as a bonus.
Graduate, Palmerston North - 23 Aug 2024
Reasonable given the role.
Graduate, Hamilton - 23 Aug 2024
The pay is okay but I know lots of grad programs get around 10k more plus regular rem reviews. Our bonuses depend on the performance that financial year and I haven't received one yet so can't comment.
Graduate, Christchurch - 22 Aug 2024
Good bonuses (10% maximum bonus) 65,400 starting salary + living away allowance takes pay above 70,000
Graduate, Hamilton - 22 Aug 2024
Not sure how some roles seem to be making more than some of the others within Fonterra. Bonuses relining on other within team can be risky, as it can bring down your own bonus because of someone else
Graduate, Palmerston North - 22 Aug 2024
Happy when looking from New Zealand perspective. US and Australian opportunities may offer more.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Seems low, but with a bonus and once we roll off the program it is decent. The benefits of the rotations are so significant that this doesnt really matter. Also as a change from uni-life, anything seems significant.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Pay is ok, slightly less than other grad programs but this is countered by the free Masters. Bonus structure does not encourage individual success which I think is concerning.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Fairy pay considering the masters is also provided for free
Graduate, Christchurch - 22 Aug 2024
Pay seems to be consistent with market and there's a 10% bonus as well.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Everyone gets the same
Graduate, Hamilton - 21 Aug 2024
I think the pay is definitely one of the best in terms of graduate programs, but may be lagging behind in terms of inflation and continuing the balance with cost of living in locations like Auckland. Bonus wise it seems like its difficult to get the full amount that you may be credible for, especially in terms of individual contribution. I try my best to do things that are serious in getting the full bonus but nothing short of changing the entire company seems to be available to get that. Seems a bit of out of reach, and even more now with the recent change that is based on the business performance which means that its out of your own control. Yes you can contribute so the most amount of people can get the most amount of the bonus, but it may reduce the drive to try build something really different (my focus is in this area) as it requires a lot of other things to be in place. I guess the main thing is how easily access is that full bonus is the key question.
Graduate, Auckland - 21 Aug 2024
Beginning salary is competitive but not a lot of growth within the two-year program. Would be nice to have more opportunity to increase with performance
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Aug 2023
It was quite good, or used to be but some minimal increases over time have possible left it lacking
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Aug 2023
Haven't experienced it really yet so am not sure.
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Mar 2023
As a grad, the pay was about $5k above what I was expecting and the bonus is great too. Not sure how the rest of my career will shape pay-wise but going two years without a raise after the huge inflation has been unfortunate but I still consider my pay above market salary for a grad role.
Graduate, Hamilton - 08 Mar 2023
Pay is good. No question about it. However my workload does not reflect that pay. The experience I have gotten from the work is worth it though.

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
Opportunities to travel to other sites within NZ as part of business and have all travel costs expensed
Graduate, Palmerston North - 29 Aug 2024
Discounted dairy products. health insurance. Discounts on some different things too.
Graduate, Auckland - 26 Aug 2024
Can apply for a FarmSource credit card, giving discounts at a lot of retailers around NZ.
Graduate, Palmerston North - 23 Aug 2024
An employee farm source card plus other discounts that give discounts at a huge range of retailers. If in unionized roles, there is also the very generous superannuation and healthcare packages.
Graduate, Palmerston North - 23 Aug 2024
None of the above that I'm aware of. We do get moving expenses if we have to move islands.
Graduate, Christchurch - 22 Aug 2024
Discounts on multiple brands (e.g Samsung), free milk in breakroom
Graduate, Hamilton - 22 Aug 2024
Social club, free coffee machine, provide taxis for some social events
Graduate, Palmerston North - 22 Aug 2024

Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Site cafeteria's food
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Little official perks that are of benefit to me personally
Graduate, Christchurch - 22 Aug 2024
As part of the social club there's free BBQ's, coffees, friday drinks, movies and discounted activities. There's also a dairy discount for products in the store downstairs. There's a range of other corporate benefits that come with working at a big company. Usual discounts at certain retailers etc. You can also apply to get an employee card which means you get discounted petrol.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Living allowance. Traveling around. Masters. Free dinners
Graduate, Hamilton - 21 Aug 2024
Probably the best perk is staff discount pricing on products in the staff shop and at Takanini factory. The other one would likely being in the Samsung ERP program for heavy discounts on Samsung products as well as on other tech products across vendors. The other thing will be the farmsource card and getting really good discounts on fuel. There isn't much in terms of perks, and it seems that the company did have a lot of perks but that has been cut back significantly in recent years based on discussion with full-time employees who have been around for some time.
Graduate, Auckland - 21 Aug 2024
Getting some money to help with relocation is definitely a perk
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Aug 2023
Free milk at work, Auckland social club perks (Work BBQ, free coffee Monday once a month, free movies at events once a quarter, work drinks and nibbles every fortnight), one-off events like Pilates and more, discounted dairy products at the office supply store.
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Aug 2023
Lot's of food in the building to find generally.
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Mar 2023
There are some cool deals that I have taken - movie tickets, Torpedo 7, New Balance, Samsung to name a few.
Graduate, Hamilton - 08 Mar 2023
To be honest, there aren't that many perks. We do get 30% off at Farm Source but unless you are a farmer or like stoney creek it's not too helpful. But we do get cheap cheese!
Graduate, Christchurch - 08 Feb 2023
