What do our Graduate Civil Engineers do? 

As a Graduate Civil Engineer based in Stantec’s Hamilton office, you will join an established multi-disciplined team, applying your technical knowledge and working with experienced engineers and project managers who can guide and mentor you as your build your career, with technical support from our extensive design resources based in New Zealand and the wider Asia Pacific area. 

Our Hamilton water team are involved in a wide variety of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater projects around the Waikato region and across the country, including feasibility studies, pipe renewals and upgrades, design and construction of infrastructure such as pump stations and culverts, and wastewater and drinking water network planning and design.  This is an opportunity to advance your career in infrastructure.   

Day to day tasks may include:   

  • Performing data analysis and design calculations.  
  • Design work associated with different phases of project delivery, including optioneering, preliminary design and detailed design.   
  • Testing solutions through calculations and software to pick a preferred solution.    
  • Using software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D to develop designs and assist with drawings.   
  • Attending workshops, training, and career development opportunities.   
  • Preparation of reports and other essential engineering documentation.   

What you will bring

You have a passion for water engineering and possess personal leadership qualities and thrive in an environment in which they are challenged.  

Key skills to bring:  

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or soon to complete) 
  • Problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Completed water resource engineering / hydraulic engineering papers at University 
  • Ability to developing design solutions though using first principals, software/tools and creative thinking 
  • Ability to present solutions through communication and written skills. 

To be eligible to apply you must: 

  • Be a recent Civil Engineering graduate or due to complete your studies in 2024 
  • Preferably have a current restricted or full driving licence 
  • Working Rights in New Zealand (Student Visa holder, convertible to post study open work visa, Permanent Resident OR Citizen)
