As a Graduate Auditor, Each day is different with many engagements, working alongside assisting seniors, admin works. So, none of the days are the same.

I have been told I am doing jobs that are normally above my level already. Occasionally I do GST returns or Tax returns but in general it is financial statements and working with the two permanent clients I work on.

Since being a graduate I do lot of the easier financial statements and tax returns for my office and some other offices around NZ we have job sharing with like Hamilton etc. I also have to do the occasional binding job for partner and client meetings. I have a graduate job of keeping the drinks fridge stocked for Friday drinks and other internal meetings where we need drinks so occasionally have to go to the supermarket and get more.

A bit confused with it sometimes, it varies because I audit financial statements, and use different procedures to manage the client we are working on, whilst also using the step by step guide provided by my software (CaseWare).

I do secretarial accounting work for a company, which involves communicating with directors about the financial position of the business, and for certain clients preparing NZTE Claims and sending those off. I prepare company financial statements, tax returns tax compliance work. Occasionally will do a little bit of portfolio work (compliance) for a few individuals for their tax returns. There are opportunities to do more management accounting type work.

There is a lack of responsibility given to younger staff and minimal involvement in internal meetings and interactions with clients and other third parties. This makes it difficult to develop relationships/connections and skills applicable beyond the preparation of annual financial statements. The roll itself is very repetitive and does not offer a variety of work.
