Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders at Sparke Helmore Lawyers

We have a strong commitment to empowering First Nations voices and removing obstacles to employment, opportunities and improving access to services.

We have a strong commitment to empowering First Nations voices and removing obstacles to employment, business and supplier opportunities and improving access to services.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)  was launched in 2022 and accompanying program aligned to Sparke Helmore’s overall strategy. Some of these initiatives include inclusive practices in our purchasing decisions, collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses, First Nations Cultural Sharing training, providing ongoing pro bono legal assistance to support local decision making in Aboriginal communities, and the establishment of pro bono Aboriginal wills clinics.

We are currently working with Aboriginal Law Student Mentoring Program—which offers support and opportunities to First Nations law students—to design a program that will involve a paid Sparke Helmore traineeship for a penultimate or final year local indigenous law student. Through the Program, the student mentee will have the opportunity to experience what a career in law is like with a focus on building relationships with our Adelaide team and contributing to real work and projects.
